Troop 895 will operate the climbing tower at Camp Cherokee on Saturday, November 7 for the North Trail district Webelos Woods event. This is a very well attended event each year by the Webelos in our district, and excellent exposure for Troop 895 and its Outdoor Program. I currently have several scouts and scouters signed up to support this activity, but I need some more. If you are interested in learning about running a climbing event and helping out the troop, please contact me. No experience is required to help: we offer on-the-job training. I would feel comfortable with at least 6 adults. For a great intro to scout climbing, go to circle10.org, select Training from the side menu, click on On-line Training Center, and select Climb-on Safely. If you have not already created a training file on MyScouting, you will be prompted to do this, which will record all your online training and which will allow you print out your own certification cards. While you are on the site, check out all the other training opportunities that are at your fingertips. Thank you for supporting Troop 895.Yours in Scouting,Mark WaltersASM Troop 895Outdoor Program
Winter Camp is coming!!
November 04, 2009
Winter Camp is December 27-31 and is Jamboree style camping. The goal of Winter Camp is to offer a winter camping experience with advancement opportunities through merit badges classes, special events, special programs (extra fees) and additional fun! First year scouts will have opportunity to advance on Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks requirements as well as the five-mile hike requirement!
For the next couple of Monday night meetings, be looking for the sign up sheet (so we can get a head count for the upcoming registration date) as well as more information on the list of merit badges and special programs offered (Mountain Man village, Indian Lore village and C.O.P.E. course, and more).
We are in need of adult participation for this camp, specifically, an adult lead and grubmaster. Each troop provides its own meals in its own campsite. This is another reason we will need to know how many scouts will be participating in order to plan for meals.
Please consider whether or not your scout will be participating this year so we can determine the cost for this camp (camp registration, food, extra costs for special programs and wool caps possibly). We are looking to have all monies collected no later than December 1st to beat the registration deadline.

Gun Safety Training
October 16, 2009
Kaboom campout is coming in November. If you plan to shoot air rifles, 22 rifles and shotguns, you MUST attend gun safety training. For two Monday night meetings (Nov. 2nd and Nov. 16th), gun safety classes will be offered. Please plan to attend one of these meetings prior to the campout.

Saturday, March 7, under gray skies that produced no rain, Troop 895 participated in the yearly North Trail District Camporee.
Including Saturday evening guests, 949 people attended the annual event, held at Camp Cherokee on Circle Ten Council’s 3,300-acre Clements Scout Reservation in Athens, Texas.
Camporee featured 17 competitive events for Boy Scouts. Required events included fire building, first aid, and an orienteering pentathlon. Among optional events were troop tunes, camp-fire entertainment, senior patrol leader international dessert, and world Scout history.
