Mustang Stampede is a country and western swing/stunt dance team from nationally recognized J. J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas. Stampede is only in its fourth year, but has quickly established itself as one of the most popular and sought after student organizations at Pearce. The team's sponsors are teacher Caroline Waller and teacher and coach Steven Anthony.
Each Stampede member is an exceptional high school student. In order to try out, prospective members must have a specific grade point average and obtain excellent recommendations from their classroom teachers. Members are selected after a dance and stunt audition before a panel of judges with ballroom dancing, cheerleading and drill team expertise. The 2010 - 2011 team consists of 19 couples, all juniors and seniors. They practice daily while being involved in varsity sports, theater, choir, honor societies, student government, various clubs and volunteering in their communities and churches.
Decked out in denim, red boots and white hats, these kids will delight and amaze you with style and enthusiasm as big as the Lone Star State. Watch them flip, twirl, tumble and fly through the air, and then join the team for lessons in line dancing and other C & W favorites.
