JJ Pearce track competes in District 10-4A under the direction of head track coach Steve Anthony. The 2010 edition of Mustang track and field features an exciting mix of youthful talent and proven winners. The men are led by returning regional finalists Cory Coleman (high jump) and Casey Lane (300 hurdles) who were literally inches and seconds away from the state finals last year. The Mustangs also return their entire 4 x 400 Regional Qualifying squad. Sophomore Nick Ucherek is another talented hurdler who had significant success in national age group competitions over the summer. Sam Dempsey is a young and improving 400 meter/long jump man. Jared Floyd is another sprinter/jumper who could have an impact. Senior Joe Schluter heads the middle distance group. In the longer runs Senior Drew Cotten will be there as always and Coach Anthony hopes to get Taylor Piske once the soccer season is over. Piske was one of the top sophomore cross country runners in Region II this fall and could definitely score points in the 3,200 this spring.

The most excitement for the Mustangs springs from a superb group of young sprinters just arriving on campus. Freshman Kedron Banks ran low 11s in the 100 over the summer. jay Hunter is not far behind. Junior Jared Floyd is an accomplished sprinter jumper and they are joined by Evan carter who has devoted himself to track full time. For the first time in recent memory, Pearce should be a factor in the speed events.

The women's story starts with recent University of Texas signee, distance star Megan Siebert. Megan was an all state selection in cross country this fall and should rack up the points in the distance events. Her sidekick is sophomore Kendall Howen who can run the 800, 1600 or 3,200. Kendall's season opening times of 11:54 in the 3,200 and 5:30 in the mile have her pointed toward finishing towards the top of the ultra-competitive District 10-4A women's distance scene. The Ponies can choose from four talented 400 meter runners in Leslie Deramus, Dani Austin and the Saucier twins. Look for great things in 2010 from this group.
