Meet and Greet the Troops - R&R FLIGHTS (Rest and Recuperation)

DFW AIRPORT

Updated 5/19/2010

The USO R&R Program (Rest and Recuperation) was started in 2004 to meet and greet the troops to encourage and support our deployed military. Anywhere from 150 to 250 troops come through DFW airport each day on their way home for a two week R&R.    Anywhere from 150 to 250 troops come through DFW airport each day on their way home for a two week R&R. One flight arrives daily at DFW and one departs each day. A small portion meets their families here but the majority will catch connecting flights home. Volunteers gather each day to welcome these troops off their flight, thanking and encouraging them for their service to our great nation.

Narrow Trail Cowboy Church would like to encourage you and your family or friends in joining us to meet and greet the troops each month as we encourage and support our deployed military.  The Troops Ministry Team at NTCC is committed to participating in the R&R Program this month and is planning on meeting at DFW Airport twice a month in the future if possible.

To learn of expected flight arrivals, call 972.574.0392 for a recorded message. You may call after 8:30 p.m. at night up until the flight arrives the next morning. Though most flights are expected to arrive between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., the key is to be flexible as this does change, sometimes even at the last minute. Please know that the Military does their best to keep us informed. You will want to check the recording several times in the morning before coming to the airport. The troops arrive at Terminal D, Gate 22. You may park in the lot located on the ground level. You will walk across to greet the troops in the Arrival Hall. Parking passes will be issued as you arrive so there is no parking fee or charge to your toll tag (toll tags must be taken down before entering the airport, since we are unable to reimburse toll tags).

The Troops Team will head down the trail to DFW on Saturday morning, June 19th this month. If you would like to participate please contact Rachel Pope or Christi Lott. It may be possible to car pool with someone since gas is so expensive!  It’s also makes for a great opportunity to fellowship!  I have a family reunion that weekend so I will be in the “Show Me” state of Missouri and can’t participate this time.

Watch the NTCC Web Calendar for future dates

NTCC hears from the Troops
The 46th Engineer Combat Battalion

The following is the context of the letter picture beside this notice, as a testimony to your giving.

Dated September 5, 2008

My name is Chaplain Jerry Wagner. I serve as the Battalion Chaplain for the 46th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy) stationed out of Ft. Polk, LA. We are a construction battalion currently deployed to Camp Liberty in the Baghdad area of Iraq. I am delighted to say that we received one of your care packages and were genuinely touched by your generosity.

What a blessing to receive the large care package from you with many different items including hygiene stuff and great snacks! I could tell that you took special care into selecting items for our American Soldiers.

Thank you for the time and funds you have provided to support American Troops, and the impact you have had specifically on our unit.

Thank you again for your kindness. When I get care packages as a chaplain, I ensure that they get to the “Boots on the Ground.” I am certain to take these items with me when I vist Soldiers in more remote locations. Most of these Soldiers have no regular access to a store in order to purchase items like you sent. May God bless you and The United States of America.

                                                                                    Sincerely,

                                                                                    Jerry M. Wagner

                                                                                    Chaplain, CPT, US Army

                                                                                    46th ECB(H) BN Chaplain

The NTCC will be participating in the "Welcome Home a Hero" program at DFW International Airport on Feb. 28.

Every day more than 100 U.S. soldiers come through DFW International Airport on their way home for two weeks of much needed and anticipated R&R with family and friends.

And on Saturday, Feb. 28, the Narrow Trail Cowboy Church will be on hand to greet these patriotic men and women as we participate in the "Welcome Home a Hero" program.

One to two flights land each day.  DFW Airport has teamed up with the North Texas Commission to ensure that a group of supporters are at the terminal to cheer and give these soldiers a proper TEXAS Welcome!

Why participate?
After long tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, our troops need a recharge. This warm Texas welcome home starts their two weeks of rest and recuperation on a high note. There are only two airports in the entire nation receiving these flights: DFW and Atlanta.

How to participate:
Come out to DFW International Airport and park across from Terminal B or D depending on the flight arrival schedule that day. Every day the flight lands at between 9 am and noon.

When you go to Welcome Home a Hero, call 972-574-0392 the morning of your visit to confirm the exact terminal, gate, and approximate landing time.

PLEASE NOTE:  Daily arrivals are subject to change.

If you would like to participate in this worthwile project, please contact Ann Parchman for details.

Let us never forget those whose sacrifice allow us to the freedom to worship freely.

Hebrews 11:16 says:

But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.

As we give our daily thanks, let us not forget to give thanks to the men and women in our armed forces who continue to fight for our country and our freedom to pray without persecution.

Christi Lott our Troops Ministry Team Leader will be collecting your donated items to be delivered to the troops.  So, please remember to bring your items to the Sunday Service and drop them in the Troop Box so we can show our appreciation to the men and women who risks their lives daily for us and our freedom!

Xerox supports the troops

An example of one of the cards you can send for free thanks to Xerox at www.letssaythanks.com.

The Narrow Trail Cowboy Church has a Troop Team that collects needed items and sends them to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

But what if times are tough for you financially and you can't participate in buying items for the NTCC Troop Box? No worries. You can still be supportive by sending a free card of support and thanks to the troops.

Xerox has a wonderful program in which you can select a child-created card online and send it to the troops for free. Xerox prints the cards and sends them to the troops.

You can't pick out the person to whom the card is sent, but you can make some soldier's day with very little effort and no cost.

Send as many cards as you like. Send one, two, three or more every day. It takes only seconds.

To participate, visit the special Xerox website at http://www.letssaythanks.com
