REQUIREMENTS

· You must have passed all classes during the 4th six weeks grading period or show proof of eligibility after the 3 week grading period during the 5th six weeks to be able to attend the workshops. Pre-Ap and AP courses are exempt along with regular Pre-Calculus.

∙ If you failed a class you are still eligible to tryout, however, it will be your responsibility to learn all of the necessary routines and stunts outside of the workshops. You are not allowed to attend the workshops if you are ineligible.

∙ You will turn in the 4th six-weeks report card to show proof of your passing all classes in order to participate. If you are not passing any classes, you must fill out the grade report for the 5th six weeks and turn it in on the first day of the clinic.

∙ You must turn in a completed and signed Medical Treatment Authorization and Liability Release and Acknowledgement. You will not be able to attend workshops and tryouts without it.

∙ You must have at least 10 credits toward graduation your 11th grade year.

∙ You must have at least 15 credits towards graduation your 12th grade year.

∙ You need to have 1st period available for Wranglers.

∙ You must pass out teacher recommendation forms with envelopes to your four core class teachers, (Math, Science, English, and Social Studies), plus one additional current teacher of your choice= 5 total sheets. (Any junior who is currently a Wrangler must use Mrs. Crook for the additional teacher). Office or teachers aid positions do not count as a 5th alternative teacher. Please bring your schedule to Mrs. Crook or Mrs. York if you do not have four core classes so that we may pick another class. Make sure to hand the form to your teacher with the top portion of the recommendation filled out. The envelopes should have both the student name and teacher name on the outside of the envelope.  All copies of the teacher recommendations are strictly confidential and the contents within will never be disclosed to the students or parents/guardians.

WORKSHOPS AND AUDITIONS

∙ Clinic is mandatory, therefore, all candidates are expected to stay the entire time of each workshop day. The only exceptions are school related events previously cleared by Mrs. Crook and Mrs. York.

∙ All candidates must stay the entire time the day of tryouts. You may not leave after your tryout and come back later. Once all candidates have been checked in at 4:30, everybody stays until dismissed by the directors.

Only senior Wranglers are allowed in the cafeteria with the candidates. No parents, friends, family members, or boyfriends/girlfriends.  Senior Wranglers will be assisting with tryouts but will not be allowed in the gym during tryouts with the exception of the senior captains who are assisting with the tryout.

∙ TRYOUTS WILL BE HELD IN A CLOSED SESSION. However, this will not preclude the judges, the school principal, the director, the assistant director, the administrative personnel from being present during the tryouts, and the senior escorting the candidates into the gym.

∙ Couples will be kept separate while waiting to tryout.

∙ Candidates that have been through the tryout process (appeared before the judges) will be separated from the other candidates.

∙ Each candidate will wear a number (selected on Thursday) and the judges will score each candidate by their number. The newly elected Wranglers list will be posted using the candidates' tryout numbers.

∙ During the workshops, the wardrobe may be boots or tennis shoes, jeans or shorts, and a t-shirt. Girls must wear sliders under their shorts. It is recommended that boots be worn during the workshops because the are required for tryouts, but it is not mandatory. Current juniors are NOT allowed the wear any Wrangler attire, except for the boots, during workshops and tryouts.

∙ For tryouts, boys will wear blue jeans, a plain white t-shirt, and boots. Girls will wear black shorts with sliders, a plain white t-shirt, and boots.

∙ No gum or jewelry will be allowed at the workshops or tryouts. Girls must have their hair tied back away from their faces. This is a safety issue and will be strictly enforced.

∙ Cell phones must be turned off during the workshop. Anyone using a phone without permission will be asked to leave the clinic.

SELECTION PROCESS

∙ There will be three or four judges.

∙ Three or four judges' scores will be averaged together for a final score in each category.

∙ Each candidate will have the opportunity to earn up to 100 points comprised as follows:

  • Memory                                  25 points
  • Technique                               25 points
  • Showmanship                          25 points
  • Teacher Recommendations      25 points

Each teacher recommendation form is worth a max of 25 points and a minimum of 4 points. A zero will only be awarded if the student refused/forgot to give a recommendation out. The lowest teacher rec score will excluded from the calculation. The remaining 4 forms are averaged together to create the final score for the "teacher recommendation.

∙ Candidates will be ranked in order from highest score to lowest score.

∙ The total number of Wranglers on the team will be no less than 40 and will not exceed 46.

Candidates will be evaluated on a routine, which will include required stunts and stunts selected by each couple trying out.

Candidates will be paired up in couples by a third party, not related to the Wrangler organization no later than the day preceding the tryout.

A candidate mat be asked to tryout with more than one partner. (This is typical for the guys, but has occurred occasionally for the girls, as well.

Couples will learn the tryout order the day before tryouts.

Callbacks may occur if deemed necessary by the judges.

All incoming juniors, (for the '10-'11), on the team will try out again to remain on the team their senior year.
